RUSKIN READERS - Adult Literacy
Ruskin Readers is a friendly, volunteer run adult literacy club. They aim to provide help for adults with reading and writing difficulties, enabling them to take charge of their own lives. Volunteer tutors provide free one to one tuition for a range of students, from those with special learning difficulties through to those wishing to brush up on their literacy skills. Age range varies between 25 - 81. It’s never too late to learn!
Volunteers work with an individual student, helping to develop their learning skills and confidence for one two-hour session each week. There are regular meetings about twice a year to discuss their students' progress and to exchange ideas and talk about future needs.
Students are welcomed into a friendly club and are assigned their own tutor to work with from week to week. They set their own goals and targets for the basic skills they wish to develop.
