Adult Literacy at Bell House

About Us

Bell House Readers is a friendly, volunteer run adult literacy club. Volunteer tutors provide free one to one tuition for a range of students, from those with special learning difficulties and those wishing to brush up on their literacy skills. The aim of the group is to provide help for adults with reading and writing difficulties, enabling them to take charge of their own lives.

Age range varies between 25 - 81. It’s never too late to learn!

Join Us

Volunteer tutors work with an individual student, helping to develop their learning skills and confidence for one two-hour session each week. Volunteer tutors have support and guidance from Tutor Mentors and there are regular meetings twice a year to discuss the students’ progress and to exchange ideas and talk about future needs.

Students are welcomed into a friendly club and are assigned their own tutor to work with from week to week. They set their own goals and targets for the basic skills they wish to develop.
