Arts & Culture at Bell House

Wider learning for all is at the core of the Bell House mission. The Art & Culture programme offers a variety of talks from curators and authors, art exhibitions and themed walks. Many of these events are free but, where there is a charge, concessions are always available.

The perhaps rather grandly named Arts and Culture committee was set up in 2019 to encourage learning across the age range for people to explore different aspects of our cultural life. Over the past year Bell House has hosted a number of lectures and events which have included the curator of the British Museum talking about the Troy, Myth and Reality exhibition; Royal Academy curator Ann Dumas on Picasso and Paper ; a local graphic designer running a workshop on poster design; and David Crystal, the leading proponent on Shakespeare’s original language, presenting an insight into the work of Chaucer in the context of the history of English Pronunciation.

One of the important features of these events is to involve our audience and every event has provides an opportunity for questions – these Q&A sessions sometimes last longer than the talk itself!
