Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Training - Session 1

Bart’s City Life Saver teaches members of the public the lifesaving skills they need to act quickly and confidently in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.

Effective bystander CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and early defibrillation can greatly increase a casualty’s chance of survival and our aim is to help people move from being passive bystanders to active lifesavers.

Our Adult Basic Life Support and AED training course teaches you how to recognise the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, what to do if a person collapses and becomes unconscious, how to deliver CPR if the casualty stops breathing and how to use a defibrillator.

It is a concise yet comprehensive course focusing on immediate priorities in the event of a person collapsing and effective, simple care that can be performed until professional medical help arrives.

As well as theory training, the course includes plenty of hands-on practice so you will feel confident of exactly what to do in an emergency.

The course is open to anyone aged 16 or over. You do not need any previous knowledge or experience of basic life support to attend this course.

However, you will need to have a certain amount of physical fitness and no shoulder, collarbone or elbow injuries, or any other physical limitations, that will prevent you from being able to put someone in the recovery position and perform CPR. You should also be able to kneel on the floor and bend down to perform both these procedures.

No pre-event preparation or reading is required.
