Speaking Shakespeare - Explore Romeo & Juliet by Speaking Them

Speaking Shakespeare workshop Romeo and Juliet at Bell House

Shakespeare wrote his texts to be spoken. On what better evening could you speak these words of love?

That which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet….

Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow,

Try something different but exquisitely romantic this Valentine’s Day evening. Instead of battling for a pricey meal in a crowded restaurant, spend it speaking Shakespeare’s delicious words of love in Dulwich’s beautiful Bell House.

Explore your voice and explore your heart as you speak the poetry of Romeo and Juliet – under the guidance of voice coach, Matthew Collins.

See where Romeo and Juliet’s words take your voice. See where they take your heart and soul. Vocal exercises will allow participants to discover their personal responses to Shakespeare’s romantic masterpiece.

Suitable for singles and couples, this two-and-a-half-hour long workshop will use vocal exercises that allow participants to discover their own responses to Shakespeare’s famous young lovers.

Your Voice

Everyone has a true voice. But habits – from cultural, physical and psychological influences – sometimes conspire to conceal it.

Voice work aims to free the speaker from such impediments. It’s about regaining confidence to speak from the heart, just like we did as small children. Matthew’s voice classes are fun, educational, and life-enhancing – and powerful Shakespearean texts give the voice a rich, exciting world to explore.

Responses to Matthew’s Speaking Shakespeare Workshops:

‘Was that me? I’ve no idea where that voice came from’ – WI Member at Denman College

‘Active Shakespeare was much more fun than academic study and activities which required students to respond physically to the language are very clearly a winner’ – Teacher at The London Oratory School

‘Really took me out of myself. Cheers guv’ – prisoner at HMP Wormwood Scrubs
