Re-fashion your Clothes with Block Printing

This class is open to all levels and is a creative way to re-fashion and upcycle an existing garment you own using traditional block printing techniques.

By using traditional carved Indian blocks for printing you can amend and update your clothes by adding bold and creative print. This is a great way to cover small stains and marks or simply update an item in your wardrobe to give it a new lease of life, and ensure the longevity of the clothes that you already own.

In this class you will:

· Be introduced to the basics of block printing

· Learn about the different materials and tools needed to carry on and practise this skill at home

· Work with Indian carved wooden blocks to experiment with pattern, layout and design.

Use a sample piece of cloth to finalise your design, before printing your garment that you have brought with you. All materials from the session will be provided – but please bring an apron/ wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty as it’s a fun, creative, messy workshop!

Essential: as the focus of this workshop will be to re-fashion and upcycle an item you already own, you will need to bring a single item to be able to print in the workshop. Light coloured fabrics made from natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, denim work well for example.

Please avoid bringing: fine silk, sheer clothing, leather, PVC, lycra, such as activewear, sequins and heavily embellished clothes and synthetic clothing, these are not suitable for this workshop. Good examples of items to bring are: shirts, t-shirts, simple dresses, light jackets, jogging bottoms or sweatshirts and jeans, cotton & woven items like chinos all work well.

All workshops are non-refundable

As well as giving practical instruction, Madeline explores the different tools and materials you can use to keep trying these creative techniques at home.

Also at Bell House on 25th November, 11am -1pm Madeline Tanoto workshop: block print linen napkins.
