The Creative Arts Club: Spring Shapes – Drawing with Scissors, Inspired by Henri Matisse

This month we will be looking to the Bell House gardens and the Cut-Outs of Henri Matisse for inspiration as we explore making an image of Spring using beautiful coloured papers.

Spring Shapes - Drawing with Scissors, Inspired by Henri Matisse

We will take inspiration from the Bell House gardens and from the great master of colour and shape, Henri Matisse, to investigate how to create a “painted” image of Spring…. with a difference.

We will start with a walk around the gardens, observing the many different shapes and colours.

Back in the studio we will look at how and why Matisse created his cut-outs (a technique he referred to as “drawing with scissors”) and take inspiration from these to create work using beautiful coloured and painted papers.
