Her Lost Language: The Power of Voice

herlostlanguage.png

An evening of inspiring poetry and conversation about British-BAME history.

About this Event

We welcome poet Jenny Mitchell who will perform from her prize-winning debut collection Her Lost Language which explores the impact of British transatlantic enslavement on black lives and family dynamics.

The poems weave between the Caribbean and Britain over the course of two centuries, and aim to liberate ‘unheard’ voices.

She is joint winner of the Geoff Stevens Memorial Poetry Prize and was a prize-winner in the Ware Open and Segora competitions. Her work has been broadcast on BBC2, Radio 4 and published in several magazines.

Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, will speak at the launch about the Windrush scandal. (tbc, as dependent as the political landscape will allow!)

There will also be a short introduction to the poetry by writer and historian, S.I. Martin; and a free open mic - places very limited.
