Trees in Transition drawing classes - session one

Taking inspiration from the beautiful trees in Bell House gardens, join Liz Charsley's drawing sessions and try out different creative media

Trees are the backbone of the garden - they become more dramatically visible as their leaves fall, revealing their structures. In these drawing classes, an extension to the earlier outdoor drawing and still life classes, with the garden as backdrop, you will gain an appreciation for trees and ways to depict them.

These classes are open to all abilities. Liz Charsley will guide and advise on drawing and compositional technique, using a variety of drawing media - pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour.

Materials will be provided, including paper and drawing boards.

Tickets:

£20 for a single session, all materials included.

Session One: Saturday 6th November 10am-12.30pm

Session Two: Saturday 13th November 10am-12.30pm

Session Three: Saturday 20th November 10am-12.30pm

Session Four: Saturday 27th November 10am-12.30pm

All sessions will take place in Bell House; 27 College Road, Dulwich SE21 7BG.

This event will be following government guidance on Covid-19 measures.

About Liz Charsley:

Liz Charsley is an artist with a fondness for wild spaces. Born and raised in Canada, Liz has always spent as much time outdoors as possible. Moving to London upon completion of her BA in Fine Art, Liz has become familiar with most of the parks in South London, cycling through them and along the Thames, gathering ideas for drawings. Liz works on paper, using charcoal, oil pastel, ink, or watercolour to make large drawings of wild, unpopulated landscapes, or wildflowers and weeds. She has also produced hundreds of cyanotypes of weeds and grasses.

Liz was appointed Canadian Artist in Residence at Dulwich Picture Gallery in 2011, to support the exhibition Painting Canada: Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven, and stayed on as Teaching Artist until 2019. Liz led workshops in drawing and painting for children and adults, and now teaches 2 weekly classes for adults in her home in Herne Hill (and on Zoom since the beginning of Covid). Liz was also Artist in Residence 2018-2019 at Winton and Hugh Myddelton schools in Islington, teaching a different aspect of drawing to each class in the school throughout the year.
