This lively session with Dr Susie Nyman will explore a wide variety of multi-sensory techniques across a range of subjects to make learning sticky to support young people with dyslexia at home and in the classroom.
Susie will showcase ‘Sticky Learning’, a learning method based on Rosenshine’s principles which helps students retain and recall information effectively. Rosenshine emphasizes the importance of review and repetition, which Susie will demonstrate in her Multi-sensory Teaching Strategies across a variety of different subjects - ensuring knowledge moves from short-term into long-term memory.
Key reasons why sticky learning is beneficial
Improves recall: Regular review strengthens connections between new and existing knowledge.
Builds confidence: Students feel more confident and capable when they can retrieve information easily.
Encourages mastery: Reinforcing concepts over time leads to a much deeper understanding of the curriculum content.
Supports problem-solving: Strong fundamental subject knowledge enables students to apply learning in different contexts and situations.
Rosenshine’s focus on small steps, questioning and scaffolding ensures learning sticks by making knowledge meaningful and accessible.
