Join embroiderer Kirsten Hecktermann for an intimate 2.5-hour stitching/free-hand embroidery workshop held within the A Thread Through Time Embroidered works by Dhahabu Ngambau Dadu exhibition space.

In this session, Kirsten will introduce the concept of “letting the needle do the walking” which is key to free-hand embroidery, the primary medium both Dhahabu and Kirsten use.

Kirsten’s will bring along a selection of textiles and hand embroidery threads and will encourage participants to embroidery their response to the Bell House garden and plants.

Kirsten is proposing a workshop of ten people to make it an intimate experience and to maximise individual guidance.

Kirsten Hecktermann

Born in Kenya, Kirsten first trained and worked as a chef and then changed to work in the film industry for ten years, from restoring costumes to assistant costume designer.

Kirsten has been doing freelance sewing work for stylists since 1994. Many at the World of Interiors design magazine to make up many and varied pieces for photographic shoots. Working as a stylist herself, her work also includes design consultancy and resourcing for interior design projects.

Fabrics

Distinctive and individual, Kirsten’s work is a combination of modern and antique textiles, with her own hand dyed fabrics and hand embroidery which are used to create a wide range of interior soft furnishings and wall panels. 

Suitable for beginners as well as those with some embroidery experience.
