Where do composers look for inspiration? In this program our flute, clarinet, and bassoon trio explores the external influences that shaped woodwind chamber music across three centuries. From the late 18th century works of Beethoven who composed intimate dialogues tailored to the talents of a musical family, to creations by Slovenian composer Voglar, whose work seamlessly pairs the witty, neoclassical aesthetic of 1920s Paris with the driving rhythms of Balkan folk traditions. In our programme we also discover the syncopated harmonies and stylistic freedom of mid-century American jazz masterfully integrated into a traditional French sound-world in Eugène Bozza’s Sérénade.

The Levanto Ensemble is a dynamic wind trio who came together with the shared desire to discover and perform a variety of lesser-known works for this unusual combination of instruments. They have been the finalists of Royal Overseas League competition and are regularly performing as Live Music Now Artists. Performing around the world together with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra, their chamber concerts give audiences a chance to hear the woodwind section up close.
