The eccentric paintings of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo went largely unnoticed in her lifetime. It was only after her death, age 47, that her career exploded. She produced more than 150 images of herself. 'I am the subject I know best’ she wrote and many of them can be seen in the major exhibition of her work now showing at Tate Modern.

About the Speaker

Cindy Polemis is an art historian and an independent lecturer. A graduate of Oxford University and Birkbeck College, she spent many years as a radio producer and presenter for BBC World Service. Since 2016 she has been a lecturer and official art guide at Tate Modern and Tate Britain. She is also an accredited lecturer for The Arts Society and other independent organisations.
