A filmmaking program for young people (15-21) interested in non-fiction filmmaking, covering all aspects of production, focused on documentary scene construction, led by filmmaker-in-residence Liam Sherriff. Participants will each shoot and edit a small scene at Bell House which combined will produce a mini-documentary. Skills covered include how to plan for and film different scenarios, storytelling and narrative theory, conducting interviews, directing individuals in documentary scenes, editing dialogue and action, and best ethical and legal practices for capturing real-life stories. Students will then create mini-documentaries using the activities at Bell House, with the beautiful and historic house and gardens as backdrop.
Bell House will provide the filming equipment; participants will need to bring their own laptop computers for video editing. The first and last days (Sat, May 23 and Sunday May 31) are full-day workshop sessions, and the middle two days (Sun May 24 and Sat May 30) will be individual hands-on filming sessions at Bell House; participants will sign up for these times on the first Saturday.
The workshop will run over two weekends and costs £150 for a total of four days tuition.
