Anne Shelton was one of Britain's most prominent singers during the 1940s and 1950s. She was known as the 'Lili Marlene Girl' and during the war years she sang with Glenn Miller and Bing Crosby. Shelton resided in Dulwich for over 50 years and was proud to refer to herself as ‘Anne Shelton from Dulwich’.
John Temple will tell the story of Shelton’s amazing rise to fame as a teenager in 1940; the phenomenal vocal talent she undoubtedly was and will sensitively examine aspects of her personal life which thus far have remained something of a mystery.
Dr John Temple is a political historian and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIHCM). He is also a devotee of the popular music of the 1940s and 1950s and has been an admirer of Anne Shelton’s music for over 45 years.
