The course
The ancient Japanese art of Raku is notable for its dynamic process, featuring dramatic 'live' kiln firings, bringing suspense, and an element of surprise to the experience.
Each of these adult workshops will take place over 2 x 3-hour sessions across two consecutive weekends.
Session 1: Make up to three pots in Raku clay under the guidance of experienced tutor Gaby Mlynarczyk.
Session 2: Return at the same time the following weekend, to glaze and Raku fire your pots with Andy Mason.
Andy will guide you through a variety of simple glazing methods, which allow scope to generate your own approach. Your pots will finally emerge from smouldering ashes revealing the special qualities of Raku - a fusion of subtle earthy tones, rich deep colours and metallic effects.
Andy Mason, potter, teacher and workshop leader has developed his technical skills and knowledge over many years, blending tradition with his individual techniques, whilst sharing his enthusiasm and insight into the ancient rituals and contemporary practice of Raku.
Come along to soak up the energy, art and alchemy of Raku!
