Raku Experience 2026 for HAND BUILDERS - led by Andy Mason along with our regular studio teacher Schneider
Cost
£150 or £75 concessions for two sessions across consecutive weekends; 1 x 3-hour and 1 x 4-hour session.
The course
The ancient Japanese art of Raku is notable for its dynamic process, featuring dramatic 'live' kiln firings, bringing suspense, and an element of surprise to the experience.
Each of these adult workshops will take place over 1 x 3-hour and 1 x 4-hour sessions across two consecutive weekends.
Session 1 (three hours): Make up to three pots in Raku clay under the guidance of experienced tutor Schneider.
Session 2 (four hours): Return at the same time the following weekend, to learn all about the traditional Raku process. Glaze your pots and assist Raku master Andy Mason with the firings.
Andy will guide you through a variety of simple glazing methods, which allow scope to generate your own approach. Your pots will finally emerge from smouldering ashes revealing the special qualities of Raku - a fusion of subtle earthy tones, rich deep colours and metallic effects.
