Finding suitable patterns
Choosing the right fabrics for your project
Cutting out patterns and fabric
Tackling a more complex pattern which includes sleeves, pockets, facing/collar and back yoke
What will be provided:
A printed pattern for your jacket
All equipment
Iron on interfacing
What you will need to provide:
Fabric and matching thread for your jacket
Check the size chart and fabric requirements here and bring fabric with you (pre-washed to remove shrinkage) to week 1
About the pattern
The pattern we will be using for this course is the ‘Moss Jacket’ by indie designer Helen’s Closet. The jacket will challenge you to pick up new, more complex sewing skills and the end result will be a beautiful new garment for your wardrobe.
Size range for the pattern is US 0-34 (equivalent to a UK 4-38).

About the Tutor
Amy’s background is in community engagement, working on projects across London in schools, gardens, parks and historic houses. It’s no exaggeration to say that her life was changed back in 2020 when a friend taught her how to sew a simple top - a whole new world of creative fun opened up! From then on she’s been making her own clothes and dreaming up textiles projects to share with others.
There’s nothing Amy enjoys more than helping others to start their own sewing journey. It’s her belief that everyone just needs that one friend to sit with them, teach them the basics and then they’ll be off!
