Spring Garden Talk
Victorian fashions in Indoor Gardening
An illustrated talk by Charlotte Gere, distinguished author, curator and nineteenth-century decorative arts specialist.
7pm Tuesday 17th March
at Bell House
27 College Road, London SE21 7BG
As middle-class Victorian women were encouraged to take a greater interest and develop their skills in gardening, the display of indoor flowers and plants became an important part of the artistic home. Through depictions of flower arranging in paintings, literature and popular instruction books, historian Charlotte Gere will discuss changing fashions in flowers, plants, plant pots and vases, and how the house itself could be extended by window and balcony gardening and also conservatories.
After the talk there will be an opportunity to meet Charlotte and chat over a glass of wine.
This talk organised by Dulwich Society is in association with Bell House, with any surplus going towards its garden activities. Tickets, including a glass of wine, are £10 each.
